In Situ Stress and Pore Pressure from Riser Drilling: NanTroSEIZE Stage 2

The Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone Experiment (NanTroSEIZE) is a multi-year effort designed to investigate fault mechanics and earthquakes along a subduction megathrust through direct sampling, in situ measurements, and long-term real-time monitoring.

Dr. Saffer will discuss initial results from recent expeditions, including data that indicates changes in the maximum horizontal stress above the mega-splay fault, and along-strike changes in the character and physical properties of the fault zone itself.

Dr. Saffer is the specialty coordinator for the IODP NanTroSEIZE program and has sailed IODP Expedition 319 and ODP Legs 205 and 190 and 205.
