DR. FREDERICK COLWELL

2009-2010 Distinguished Lecturer
Biogeochemical Exhalations: Microbial Methane in Marine Sediments

Dr. Colwell studies the microbiology of methane hydrates in deep marine sediments.

This presentation will focus on the results of current studies focused on in situ activities of methanogens and the environmental conditions that control their distribution in sediments – necessary information for models that explore hydrate formation.

Dr. Colwell served as a shorebased scientist on Ocean Drilling Program Leg 204, and is a member of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program’s Scientific Technology Panel.
