Shore-based Scientists

Interested in the scientific objectives of an expedition, but unable to sail? The U.S. Science Support Program (USSSP) may sponsor scientists affiliated with U.S. institutions for shore-based participation in an expedition. Shorebased scientists are approved members of an expedition’s scientific party who may work on data and samples during the 12-month moratorium period and are obligated to publish results related to their research as defined by IODP policy. In order to become a shorebased member of the science party, interested scientists must first submit and have a sample request approved by the ship operator. Additional information can be found here.

If you would like more information about participating as a U.S. shore-based scientist, please contact the co-chiefs and expedition project managers for the specific expedition of interest or the USSSP Office at usssp@ldeo.columbia.edu.
