Magma Chambers and the Subsurface Structure of Submarine Hydrothermal Systems
2009-2010 Distinguished Lecturer – Jeffrey Alt
Dr. Alt will speak about ODP/IODP Hole 1256D, which sampled the first complete in situ section of upper oceanic crust and confirmed perditions for the location of magma chambers at mid-ocean ridges. Dr. Alt has participated on ten ocean drilling cruises in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans. He was a co-chief scientist on Ocean Drilling Program Leg 148 and Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 312, which deepened Hole 1256D to 1,250 meters.
