Dating Young MORB
November 10-11, 1987 – Evanston, Illinois
Convener: David Janecky, Robert Duncan, Rodey Batiza
Summary
In order to obtain a detailed, quantitative understanding of the origin of ocean crust and lithosphere at mid-ocean ridges, it is necessary to be able to date young mid-ocean ridge basalt (MORB) accurately and with precision. This workshop examined ways of achieving this capability. The participants, mostly geochronologists and geochemists, discussed available and possible new dating techniques which offer promise for dating young MORB.
